Fyllingen Lions Wrap Up ENBL Season with Strong Finish Against Bamberg
With 2,073 spectators in Haukelandshallen and a strong finish in the fourth period, Fyllingen brought their first season in the European North Basketball League (ENBL) to a worthy conclusion. The match ended 60–74 against Bamberg, the nine-time German champions, most recently crowned in 2017.
“We had them on their heels a bit at the end, and that was a victory in itself. Several of their individual players earn more than our entire budget,” noted Fyllingen coach Calix Black Ndiaye, who was thrilled with the atmosphere surrounding the game:
“When over 2,000 people come to watch us play, it shows that we have accomplished something!”
Strong Morale
Fyllingen had to manage without Karamo Jawara (back injury), while Dashawn Davis, Bouna Black Ndiaye, Lars Mensah Espe, Eric Fongué, and Oliver Bojang Visnes were back after illness – but far from 100%.
Davis, who led the ENBL scoring charts before the game with an average of 23.5 points, had a slow start and recorded only two points in the first half. The home team struggled offensively, hitting only one of 17 three-pointers initially and finishing with five of 25. Meanwhile, Bamberg made 11 of 33, with Noah Locke sinking five in a row as the visitors pulled away.
“We missed some easy shots, but they also forced us to take quicker shots than we are used to. Against tall and athletic players, we took some shots we shouldn’t have taken,” explained Ndiaye.
Nevertheless, Fyllingen showed strong morale in the fourth period and were only 11 points behind (59–70) with 1:40 left after a three-pointer from Nikolas Skouen. Davis found his rhythm and ended with 18 points, but Bamberg held on to secure the win.
Looking Ahead
With the European season over, Fyllingen can now fully focus on the domestic league and upcoming playoffs. The next challenge is an important home game against Asker Aliens on Saturday, followed by a tough away doubleheader against Tromsø Storm on February 15 and 16.
With victories in all three games, the club’s second consecutive league championship can be secured, and the team will enter the NM playoffs with great confidence!
Lastly, the Fyllingen Lions sends gratitude to all the fans, volunteers, and sponsors for their support throughout a fantastic European season.
