Valuable Lessons: Fyllingen Set to Grow After ENBL Debut

"We've learned a lot, and we're going to grow tremendously from this," concluded Calix Black Ndiaye after Fyllingen's 102-72 loss to Legia Warsaw in their European debut in the ENBL (European North Basketball League). The home team surged ahead with a 12-0 run and led 43-16 after the first quarter, but the Fyllingen Lions rallied and played evenly through the remaining three quarters, with Legia also giving their bench players substantial minutes.

“We faced a professional team with a former NBA guard, Jawun Evans, and they applied intense pressure," said Fyllingen's coach. "We received a lesson in the first quarter where they hit 18 out of 19 shots."

Legia finished with 15 of 32 from the 3-point line (46%), while Fyllingen only managed 5 of 22. The 45-15 score in 3-pointers mirrored the 30-point difference in the final result. Bouna Black Ndiaye was Fyllingen's top scorer with 21 points, followed by Dashawn Davis with 15. Lars Espe and Joel Kanyinda each contributed 8 points, with Espe adding 6 assists and Kanyinda grabbing 7 rebounds. Fyllingen had only 10 turnovers. "We didn’t throw the ball away, but we had to take difficult shots because of their pressure," Calix Black Ndiaye noted.

Fyllingen's next ENBL game will be away against Inter Bratislava on October 30th.
