Peter Bullock: A Noble Leader Who Roars with Strength and Inspires a Community

In the heart of Bergen, Norway, where the mountains meet the sea, lives a man with his beautiful family whose presence in the community is as steady as the tides. Peter Bullock, born in Long Beach, California, and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, is more than just a coach - he is a true gentleman, embodying the values of good sportsmanship, integrity, and leadership. When it comes to basketball and dignity, Bullock is a legend in Bergen. He arrived in the city as an Ulriken Eagles player in 2006 and never left Vestlandet. After a couple of seasons with Ulriken, he moved on to Gimle before becoming a Frøya player in 2011. Bullock played at Melkeplassen until he retired after the 2015/16 season.

Before coming to Bergen, his journey as an athlete began on a high note, stepping onto the basketball court as a starter for his first game as a true freshman at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). Peter Bullock quickly showed he was no typical rookie. By the end of his first season, the East Anchorage High School product had set the program’s new freshman standard with 335 points, putting him on course to eventually become the Seawolves’ all-time leading scorer—a title he still holds today—with 1,902 points. Since graduating with his Bachelor’s in Economics from UAA in 2004, Peter has played professionally overseas, winning four Norwegian League (BLNO) national titles. He also gained experience playing in Australia.

In 2012, he earned his Master’s in International Business from Norges Handelshoyskole and currently works in the family business, Bryggen Shipping International, owned by his wife Mia’s family. Peter deeply values his role at Bryggen Shipping International, a company that engages in trading of all types of liquid cargoes world wide. Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this historic enterprise, Peter appreciates the flexibility it provides, allowing him to balance his professional responsibilities with his passion for coaching, guidance, and mentoring young athletes. His proactive approach is a guiding light, leading others with a profound understanding of seeing the light within themselves.

Peter's dedication to the community is a family affair. With the unwavering support of his wife Mia and their four children, Peter dedicates his time every Saturday at Hjellestad School, teaching local children the art of basketball. From 12:00 to 13:00, the gym echoes with the sound of bouncing balls, laughter, and occasional cheers as Peter guides each child through drills and games, ensuring that everyone is recognized and feels like part of the team. He knows every child's name, and his commitment to their growth extends beyond the court. After each practice, he hands out candy and shares words of wisdom, encouraging the kids to reflect on their behavior as they return to school on Monday.

In addition to his work at Hjellestad, Peter is a driving force behind Ytrebygda Basketball Club, where he coaches two young teams and serves as Head of Sports Development. His influence extends beyond basketball, as he regularly brings children to watch local football and basketball games, teaching them by example what it means to be a good sport.

For Peter, sportsmanship goes beyond winning or losing; it’s about how you play the game, how you treat your teammates, opponents, and even yourself. He teaches his players that being a good team member means showing up with a positive attitude, being ready to learn, and always giving your best effort. Off the court, this philosophy extends to how they interact with others—whether it's showing kindness to a classmate, being honest in difficult situations, or helping someone in need.

Peter emphasizes that the lessons learned through sports—teamwork, perseverance, and respect—are the same values that will guide them throughout life. He encourages his players to reflect on their actions, understand their impact on others, and always strive to be better, not just as athletes but as individuals. By fostering a culture of mutual respect and ethical behavior, Peter instills in his players a deep understanding that true success is measured not by the scoreboard, but by the character they build along the way.

Peter Bullock is more than a coach—he is a role model, a community uniter, and a pillar of strength. He embodies the values that matter most: family, work, community, ethics, and morals. Almost every child in the area knows him, looks up to him, and draws inspiration from his noble example. Like a lion, Peter Bullock embodies honor—a quality that resonates deeply with those he mentors. As he signs up for yet another season with Fyllingen Lions, the community recognizes that they have a true champion in their midst, one whose influence roars far beyond the game.
